The Realistic Analog Echo is a digitally controlled analog delay and preamp that takes the bones of the beloved Realistic Electronic Reverb made by Radioshack in the 80's and greatly expands its functionality.
The RAE features an all analog signal path, up to 400ms of analog delay, four different LFO waveforms (triangle, saw, square, random), five different momentary modes activated by holding the footswitch, and expression control over the Wave, Rate, Depth, and Time sliders.
The momentary modes are selected by holding the red button and moving the wave control. The sliders will display different combinations of lights to show which mode has been selected. The modes are as follows:
- Oscillation (no LEDs), holding the footswitch will max the feedback control creating oscillation in the delay line.
- Chaos (all LEDs), holding the footswitch will randomize the slider settings, when released it will return to the displayed setting. Every press is different from the last.
- Max Rate (Rate LED), maxes the rate control when held.
- Max Depth (Depth LED), maxes the depth control when held.
- Min/Max Delay Time (Time LED), when the delay setting is below the midway point holding the footswitch maxes the setting. When the delay is set above the midway point holding the footswitch will minimize the delay setting.
To save an expression setting, double tap the red button and move the sliders to the desired maximum setting. Tap the red button to save the position, then move the sliders to the desired minimum setting. From here your expression pedal will sweep between the setting displayed by the sliders and the setting you've saved. You use any combination and any movement direction for the sliders.
The RAE was designed in collaboration with Eric Wood of Heuristic Industries, you can check out his stuff here: https://heuristic.industries/
